About Anything Else

{this stuff is like buttah}

Baby alpaca! I love this. One of the fantastic fibers I've sourced from my new supplier here in Bordeaux. You have no idea how soft this is. Seriously. I want to tuck it under my pillow and sleep with it there every night.

I'm thinking a neck wrap suitable for crisp spring weather...something that can take you from winter to spring, and from fall to winter. I have this on my "what I'm knitting next" list and it won't be waiting until the weather gets cold again, either. This year I will be knitting through summer so expect the occasional new knit design to appear in the summer months.

I know. Usually at this time I'm sketching, making textile samples, draping on the dress form, drafting patterns, and sewing up prototypes for the shop but all that will have to wait until June as I'm soon to be on maternity leave. While I'm now sketching clothing and bag designs, I haven't been able to do any of the other intensive work since mid-January. But I'm eager to get back to it so expect my clothing, bags and other sewn items to return in time for fall 2012!

Timbre Coeur 2011: Maurizio Galante

This year La Poste invited fashion designer Mauricio Galante to design the limited edition heart stamp. "Grave tes initiales" (engrave your initials) and "colorie-moi" are the themes of these two. They're designed so that you can write a little message in the heart or color the stamp any way you want. Cute idea and the intent is to get you to be "creative", although I admit that I would have been happier to see a little more creativity on the stamp by the designer himself. Still pretty, though.

Timbre Coeur 2010: Lanvin

Every year La Poste issues a limited edition heart stamp by a French designer or design house. This year's stamps were designed by Alber Elbaz, artistic director for Lanvin, in celebration of the anniversary of the design house founded by Jeanne Lanvin in 1889. Aren't they charming? They've been winking at me and I finally took the time to pick some up during my last post office run.

Yep. Better stay inside and knit.

yep. better stay inside and knit.

All weekend it snowed. Then it snowed some more. Followed by more snow. Oh, and even more snow because, clearly, Lyon just couldn't get enough snow. All of my Saturday errands were canceled because the places I needed to visit were either closed due to the bad weather or too far. [And this is when I make a frustrated pirate sound of "arrgh!"]

So instead of running errands this weekend I got a chance to stay inside and knit some fabulous tube scarves which will be new additions to the shop. Really! They're brand spanking new. Instead of the alpaca blend I use for the tube scarves currently in my shop (like this one, this one and this one), I knit these tube scarves in the same alpaca blend that I used for my LouLou Slouch Hat. It may appear to be the same alpaca blend used for the tube scarves currently in my shop but the one used for LouLou and for the tube scarves pictured below actually has more wool, less acrylic and a little less alpaca. Both yarns are fabulous, but they come in different color palettes and since Spring is around the corner I wanted to go for some softer, paler colors.

I love these colors. So beautifully soft and delicate! Perfect for the sunny but chilly days of Spring. And I love knitting this alpaca blend. It's like the chocolate truffle of fiber. I knit the blush pink scarf first, and when I tried it on I swooned. Wearing it made me feel like I should be all about champagne wishes and caviar dreams. So I immediately started another tube scarf in the same fiber, this time in a pretty pearly gray, and knit all the way through Sunday morning. I'll be listing them in the shop this week, as soon as I photograph these samples.

In case you're wondering, yesterday it finally stopped snowing. The snow is still there, though. I love to admire it. From my window. Because once I go outside I exclaim, "Oh! How pretty!" Followed by, "Dang, it's cold." And then I turn on my heel and come back inside to watch The Boat That Rocked while I knit on my queue of orders.
