LouLou, in cotton.

hat_loulou_coton_pearl.jpg

Brand new in the shop. The LouLou in cotton! It took me a couple of prototypes to get the fit right as cotton does not have as much elasticity to it as other fibers. But I did it, and I really like it! It looks fabulous on. Get it right here (and if you like this pearl beige color, don't wait too long as it is incredibly limited).

A new French Lace Tote*, coming to my Etsy shop soon.

*100% handmade: This tote is built from scratch using a pattern I constructed myself using a graph ruler, pencil and good ole kraft paper. You won't find any embellished, mass-manufactured bags here.

Tuileries in White

Tuileries in White.
I made this at the request of a buyer in my Etsy shop, and if I say so myself: It sure is purdy! I am so happy with how it came out that I am sharing it here for you to see. One thing that I did tell my kind buyer before I even listed it for her: the Tuileries in white needs to be worn with a slip underneath or layered over leggings, shorts, jeans or trousers. But that white! So utterly crisp and clean it makes me want to hug it.

I don't plan on putting it for sale in my shop until next spring, but if you'd like to have one before that I may be able to do it upon request only. Contact me at my Etsy shop to see if I can set up a "reserved" listing for you.

Seersucker Bubble Dress

Seersucker Bubble Dress.
"Skip through a meadow, enjoy a picnic on a pretty gingham blanket, take a stroll on a charming cobble-stoned street...in this dress*."

Just now added back to the shop, this is the among the last I'll offer up this summer as I'm going to start focusing on my fall/winter designs.

*I don't think I'll ever stop offering my signature summer dress. The first version I ever created was part of a collection I designed - Mexican folklorico was one of my inspirations - in my first year of fashion school and it walked loud and proud down the runway at the end of the year show. Someday, I'll show you the original. (Still have it around here somewhere. Can't let go of it.)

She's baaaaack....

Tuileries, that is.

Inspired by the English-style parks in Paris and Edouard Manet's "Le Linge", I sketched this dress in the lines of the child's clothing in the painting and initially built it using 100% linen in the color of the mother's dress in that same painting. Well, the color is exactly the same but Tuileries is now in 60% linen and 40% cotton. Same drape, comfort and coolness provided by natural fibers. Don't you just heart 'em?

Tuileries in lin-coton, in my Etsy shop right now. Go get her, then take a romantic walk through a park.

The Seersucker Bubble Dress in Red is baaaaaaack

Sunny days, fresh fruit from the outdoor market and lots of ice cream. That's what I think of with my striped seersucker dresses, like this one. Lightweight and slightly textured, seersucker is the thing to wear while traveling or enjoying summer days. And I love the thick red on white stripes! (Woven, so the pattern is reversible.) They remind me of the stripes in fashion during the late 18th century. (You've probably noticed by now that historical clothing rocks my socks.)

This red on white number is the last one in stock. Get it here in my Etsy shop!

The "Big City" Linen Bag is baaaaaaack

A TortillaGirl favorite, this year's version is "upgraded" with the addition of an inside zippered pocket, swivel hook for keys and a bit more structure. But if you prefer last year's "downgraded" version, well, I can do that, too. Just convo me for details.

In the meantime, the Summer 2010 version is now in my Etsy shop. (I can't promise that I'll have this available next year, so don't wait too long if you have your eye on it.)

Soft French Lace Bag

Just relisted this little number back in my Etsy shop! I added a bronze [European made] magnetic snap closure that matches nicely with the bronze-tone metal teeth of the zipper 'cause I like coordinating things like that. To be honest, I really don't know how many more of these I'll be able to make because both the canvas used for the shell and the hand-dyed lace are running out. And that makes this bag extra special.

Know what else? Elephant gray looks great on everybody.

Linen Bustier Dress in Candy Pink

Just relisted this sweet little number in my Etsy shop! 100% French linen in a beautiful color that looks like something out of a delish French patisserie.

Know what else? I really heart pink.

Latest clothing additions to the shop:

thumb190_mariegreenishgray.jpgthumb190_montmartre.jpg thumb190_pinstripe.jpg

Some designs updated in the latest fabrics and colors for this season! All natural, either linen or cotton (or both). Simple, clean and functional with design elements that take them all beyond your average ready-to-wear. As I've mentioned before, I don't keep big bolts or tubes of of fabric lined up in my studio so all these pieces are handmade to order in very small series, which I like to think makes them all a little more special for you.

bubble_beigestripe

Seersucker Bubble Dress, updated in beige on white woven stripes. Hangs below the knee so it can be worn on its own, but versatile enough to be layered over jeans or pants. If you'd like to give it the impression that it's shorter, pull up the hem to create a "pouf" effect.

marie_khaki

Marie Linen Bubble Tunic in a very special woodland forest green. There are only two of these in existence! One has already been sold. There is one more in the shop and it's probably the last as I don't think that I'll be able to find this particular shade of linen again.

bustier_lightkhaki

Linen Bustier Tunic in a very special shade of pale greenish gray. Perfect for those trips to the beach or lovely little summer picnics. Wear it with the tie in order to keep it "secure" and in its place. Can be worn many ways, but I think that my favorite is with a pair of distressed denim shorts. P.S. Don't miss the lace detail at the hem - very French country, which is the feel that inspired me in my collection this year.

marie_greenishgray

Marie Linen Dress updated in an earthy color, perfect for spring, summer and all the way through fall. It's a special shade, a medium gray with just the right amount of green in it. It's a very short dress, so if it's worn alone I do recommend a slip underneath. But again, my favorite is layered over shorts or pants. I like to bike around a lot, so that's usually how I wear my tunics or dresses.

montmartre_indigo_gray

Montmartre Linen Dress in a GORGEOUS shade of deep bluish gray, I like to think of it as "midnight". It reflects the light beautifully and has a lovely matte polish to it, which makes it go from casual to dressy very easily.

bubble_pinstripe

Pinstripe Bubble Tunic - bordering on mini dress length. 100% cotton shirting with a woven blue on white pinstripe and sweet cotton lace detail at the straps. Another romantic and French country-inspired piece.

New pieces coming this summer, and they will be brand spanking new and never before seen in my shop. (Pssst.....a small peek at one of them can be had in my croquis.)
