Inspiration: Rugged Denim

Regardless of the setting there is something so utterly American about denim. It's iconic. It's also very inspiring to me. When I was in fashion school the projects at which I excelled (bragging rights: and which were later exhibited...

Inspiration: Ethnic Romanticism

I like the layering, choker, beehive, turban-like effect created by the scarves, lace, ruffles, transparency, and (while I'm not a big fan of bows around waists because they remind me of gift wrapping) the ribbon detail. Plus, I'm a...

Black Swan costumes by Rodarte

For the fan of the tutu: The utter fabulousness that is the costumes designed by the Mulleavy sisters of Rodarte for Black Swan. Utterly romantic and worthy of a fairytale. [Remember my post with images from French Vogue Enfants? Tutus...

Poetic beauty.

Fact: While on my honeymoon I stood in line for over an hour at the Uffizi in Florence just to slap my eyes on Sandro Botticelli's Birth of Venus in person, because it really isn't the same if you...

Corps d'armée

Clearly, all of these war movies are making their mark. {French Vogue 905} The olive browns and khakis are cool, but doing it from head-to-toe is too much even if the shades vary. I'd soften it up with a feminine...

Alice, gingham, stripes, ballerinas & mini rockers

Things I loved from the latest Vogue Enfants: My Captain Destructo always leafs through the Vogue Enfants as soon as it arrives in the mail, and points out looks that he likes or things that he thinks are "cool". I...

Fall 2010: Richard Chai

Richard Chai Love[s] armwarmers, slouchy knits, long skirts and tiny tees and that really, really rocks my socks. Kinda commercial, yes. [Come on, designers have to eat.] But stylish, everyday wearable and fun to mix and match. Some clever girls...

Pre-Fall 2010: Christian Dior

LOVE: All of it. Military, short jackets, cinched waists, touch of boudoir, lace, ruffles (particularly those "tranchés" and contrasted by leather jackets), [beret!], 40s influence, touch of the bombshell...it borders on fantasy but is highly wearable. Gorgeous and inspiring....

Pre-Fall 2010: Chloé

Like: Menswear details, nod to English countryside, plaid, touch of ruffles, higher waist. (Some of the skirts and dresses are at an unflattering mid-knee length, but the others are fab.) {Chloé @ style.com}...

Coco Generations

A very small sampling of my favorite Chanel jacket inspired looks, different decades, that I'd like to share with you. Reportedly, Coco Chanel was not a fan of the New Look, launched by Christian Dior in 1947, with its nipped...

<3 J.P. Gaultier's Spring 2010 Couture Collection

When I look at a couture collection, I want to see fashion as art. Something unusual. A quasi museum exhibition. A fantastical dream. An awesome vision. Most of all: A really BIG show. One thing's for sure: Jean Paul Gaultier...
